Stewardship is a phrase that we may not use very often in our everyday language, yet Jesus repeatedly encouraged us to be likestewards. The role of a steward is what he/she is told to do in life and care. Biblical Stewardship can be best defined as “one who recognizes that God’s resources should be deployed through God’s people to accomplish God’s mission." Stewardship is purely, “directing God-given resources to God-given goals.” We are the servants of Jesus Christ and the conveyors of understanding the principles of God’s esotericism. Apostle Paul asserts that; people should perceive us as servants of Christ.A good steward is someone who uses all of life in a way that pleases God through his or her Time, Talent and Treasure. Steward is not therefore the owner but a ‘Manager’ or ‘Trustee’. Psalm 24:1 says; “The world and all that is in it belong to God; the earth and all who live in it are his”.

Stewardship Ministry is an important ministry of the Church and its mission. Stewardship Ministry is an important organ of the Church. In other words, it aids in the fulfilment of the mission agenda of the Church. The Stewardship Ministry plays a key role in realising the Missional goals of the Church.Jesus described the good stewardship qualities in Matthew 25: 14-30.

The Three Fundamental Principles for stewardship are:

1) THERE IS AUTHORITY THAT IS GIVEN BY GOD;

2) THERE IS RESPONSIBILITY ALONG WITH AUTHORITY

3) THERE IS ACCOUNTABILITY WITH AUTHORITY.

Effective stewardship ministry is about heart change. I like to use the term, transformational stewardship in describing this. Although it’s true that an effective stewardship ministry will increase giving, increased giving is not the primary intent. The primary purpose of the ministry is to help the congregation live a God-honouring financial lifestyle and grow spiritually.
